Keno is a game of chance with a rich and acclaimed background. The game that we are currently familiar with has experienced remarkable changes since its earliest inception. Gambling chroniclers have followed its history as far back as 200 B.C. to a Chinese style of diversion referred to as ‘The Game of the White Dove.’ It’s a well-recorded fact that a variation of keno was played in a bingo-like arrangement on the eastern seaboard right about the time of the massive Chinese immigration during the gold rush.
In its contemporary style, keno is a bit like bingo in that both games are based upon numbers. An individual keno card is printed with eighty numbers and the player will pick as many as he/she wants. This is done by marking the numbers using a pen. After the gambler has checked off the numbers, s/he must take the card back to the person at the keno stand. The clerk will then issue a slip after recording the gambler’s numbers. It is the responsibility of the player to trade in any winning keno card before the upcoming round begins, so stragglers need to stay alert.
